Tigers Eye
I always find tigers eye to be a fun gem stone. Once the gem stone is polished, the bends of dark and light coloring shows through giving the stone its unique characteristic. Can you really see tiger's eyes from the stone?
I was only familiar with the yellow/brown color variety of tigers eye. It was not until I went to the gem show earlier this year that I came across the reddish brown variety for the first time. As I was doing my research on this gem stone, I discovered there are four different varieties.
Here are the different four varieties of this gem:
— a blue-gray or bluish base color, it is called hawks eye
— a golden yellow reflection on a brown base color is called tiger's eye
— a greenish gray or green base color, it is called cat's eye
— mahogany-color base color is called bull's eye or ox eye
The traditional properties of Tigers Eye is practicality, peacefulness, clarity, intelligence, intuition, new experiences, financial stability, calmness, releasing inhibitions.
